The title of this article is “5 reasons your portfolio should be online” by George Couros. It is about the ways that society is changing and the ways that we need to adapt in order to have a better chance at finding careers. The five points that he stresses are: 1. The Google Factor 2. Searching and Organization 3. Anywhere, anytime, anyplace access 4. Creating opportunities instead of looking for them 5. Continuous learning
I will definitely use my portfolio in the future to help me get jobs. I think that it will work to my advantage if an employer looks at my online portfolio because it gives you even more information about a person. I think that it would be a good experience to create your online portfolio in kindergarten, but I don’t think that it would give you an advantage when applying for a job. I think that the most helpful page for me is my home page because you get to see me on a few different levels, from the picture, to the facts, to my thoughts and opinions. I think that you can get to know someone pretty well by looking at their portfolio. When I do journal checks, I learn a little bit more about the person that I am grading just based on three journal entries.
I think that #4 is most important to me because I am not a very loud person, so sometimes I regret when opportunities go past me and I don’t take advantage of them. I need to remember that no employer will go out of their way to hire me because there are probably people out there who wanted it more. I have to be that person who wants it more. I will use this information to my advantage by making sure that what I have online is positive, staying organized, easy accessibility to my updated portfolio, and to always keep moving forward and learning from my past experiences. There is always something new to learn.
